Gone are the days when barbershops were just that, barbershops. A small shop by the end of the shopping centre where men visited to get their hair cut and beards trimmed with reggae music playing in the background. Back then, the after-shave was a simple procedure involving dusting off the little bits of hair using the end part of a cow’s tail and a dab of diluted methylated spirit which was a pleasure reserved for the chosen few.
A recently shared video of a man enjoying his after-shave treatment consisting of a chest massage has caused a stir online, with some people supporting the therapy, which they termed as a happy ending, while others, the majority being women citing it as an extreme act of indiscipline between both the service giver and the receiver.
With the changing times and competition in the market, barbers and barbershops have had to up their game to attract high-end clientele and stay afloat in the business. They’ve had to become more creative and reinvent the game.
While skillfully cutting hair is a plus in the business, more is needed. High-end barbershops are slowly jumping on the bandwagon and adding more to their service portal. From head massages to aroma therapy, “dancing” female attendants, and most recently, chest massages, we can’t wait to see what more there is in the store!
While this move is entirely welcome by men with open arms, moral corps, and some married women seem to think otherwise. They believe that barbershops have become breeding grounds for immorality and lustrous affairs. They are convinced that having male barbers is the way to go and that barbershops should strictly stick to cutting hair. However, the unforgiving online community has lauded the evolution and encouraged insecure ladies to learn the skill and shave their men’s hair at home.
