A man who rose from fixing tiles at East Africa Device Assembly Kenya (EADAK) to a tech expert at the company stole the show during President William Ruto’s tour and launch of the fast-paced company on Monday, October 29.
President Ruto’s visit to EADAK unfolded into an extraordinary encounter with a technician named Evans Wambua.
As their paths crossed, an undeniable air of excitement enveloped Wambua, who couldn’t contain his enthusiasm at the prospect of meeting the head of state.
Journey From Mjengo to Tech Expert
“Nilikuja kwa hii Kampuni kama mtu wa mjengo, hizi tiles ni mimi nilikua naeka,” he told the president. This loosely translates to “I came to this company as a construction worker fixing tiles.”
Further, the now engine operator at EADAK noted that when the construction work was complete, he was rendered jobless.
As such, he applied for a job at the company and was lucky to be taken through a two-month rigorous training before his employment.
“When the construction work ended, I asked for a job and was taken through a two-month training. An interview followed, in which I qualified for the post of a technician,” stated an excited Wambua.
Moreover, Wambua expressed his gratitude to President William Ruto, citing how the bottom-up agenda.
“Thank you Mr President for the bottom up because I rose from a Mjengo man to a tech man,” he stated.
Government Tech Commitment
Nevertheless, Kenya is marking a significant milestone in the country’s tech industry with Mavoko smartphone assembly point being the first of its kind in the region.
Shenzhen TeleOne Technology, a Chines renowned manufacturer of low-cost Neon phones, teamed up with Safaricom and Jamii Telecommunications to see this milestone through.
On the other hand, the partnership has seen the making of Kenyan low-cost smartphones initiative into a reality.
