The Water Resources Authority (WRA) has urged all dam owners, contractors, and operators across the country to comply with all procedures and legislation on dam safety.
The WRA, established under the Water Act 2016, regulates water resources management in the country, including water abstractions, storage, and permit enforcement.
“The Authority is empowered to receive water permit applications for water abstractions, water use, water storage and recharge and determine, issue, vary, water permits and enforce the conditions of those permits,” said the WRA in a statement.
In a notice on Tuesday, April 23, the agency also noted its function of carrying out inspections and the sensitization of dam owners on compliance with the Water Resources Regulations 2021.
Despite efforts to promote compliance, the authority said some dam owners are non-compliant with safety regulations.
“The Authority has noted that despite its efforts in promoting compliance, there are some owners and operators of dams that are still non-compliant to dam safety regulations.
“All dam owners, contractors and operators are urged to acquaint themselves and comply with all the procedures and legislation on dam safety in the development and management of dams,” read the statement.
