Former nominated senator Millicent Omanga has said the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati deserves the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (EGH) award.
This is after President William Ruto on Monday, December 12 awarded Chebukati and Commissioners Molu Boya and Abdi Guliye.
Through a statement on Wednesday, December 14, Omanga said that Chebukati stood for justice during the August polls.
“Chebukati did something very heroic, portrayed a high level of patriotism, stood for justice and offered selfless service to the country under very difficult circumstances. He deserved the award beyond doubt,” she noted.
Moreover, the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart award is the second-highest award in Kenya.
It is mostly awarded to the Deputy President, the wife of the Deputy President, the First lady and Speakers of the National Assembly and Senate.

In addition, cabinet secretaries, heads of public service and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), chiefs of staff and heads of Public Service also qualify for the award.
IEBC Commissioners Molu and Guliye were awarded Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS).
Nonetheless, Chebukati, Guliye and Molu’s terms end in January 2023.
Molu and Guliye backed the results announced by Chebukati in the August 9 presidential election, which declared Ruto president.
Four other commissioners led by vice chairperson Juliana Cherera disowned the results.
