Ezekiel Mutua has said that it is difficult to regulate people’s morals and faith.
The former Kenya Film Classification Board boss while referring to the Shakahola massacre, stated that the incident should help Kenyans think about where country is headed and will be in the next 10-20 years.
“It is difficult to regulate morality, people’s faiths and personal decisions. This Shakahola massacre should prick our conscience and jolt us to think of where Kenya is going,” Mutua noted.
According to Ezekiel Mutua, the best way to empower people, especially children, is to give them information and the right education to enable them to make the right decisions.
“Governments all over the world exist to protect people’s lives, people’s property and people’s morals,” he said while speaking during an interview with Spice FM.
Ezekiel Mutua’s sentiments come following the incident where Pastor Paul Mackenzie Nthenge of the Good News International Church is said to have instructed his congregants to starve themselves to “meet Jesus”.

As a result, several members of his church have died. Reports say 73 bodies had been exhumed from a gravesite in Shakahola village, Kilifi County as of Monday, April 24 evening.
Moreover, The Kenya Red Cross reported that 212 people have been reported missing at their desk in Shakahola.
The MCSK boss further noted that the government must ensure all institutions uphold self-regulation.
In matters of faith and media freedom, I advocate for self- regulation. But where institutions fail to uphold self-regulation the Government must come in. Failure to self-regulate will always invite Government regulation.

Earlier on, Ezekiel Mutua had blamed government investigative agencies for failing to act against the Kilifi cult leader. He added that when he was part of the Kenya Film Classification Board, he banned the content of Mackenzie’s TV station after it was found to be brainwashing followers through misleading information.
Mr. Mutua who is currently the Music Copyright Society of Kenya CEO revealed that the court had upheld the KFCB’s decision, and the programme was suspended.
