Deputy Minority Leader and Kathiani Member of Parliament Robert Mbui has called out elected members of the national assembly for failing to perform their duties to Kenyans.
The Kathiani MP in his argument roped in the executive for interfering with the house activities rendering parliament dysfunctional.
Robert Mbui made these remarks while appearing on Citizen Tv’s daybreak show on December 11 when asked what his remarks are on complaints by the minority leaders in parliament about their voice not being heard.
According to the Deputy Minority leader the National Assembly has failed in understanding its role and the role of the members.
“The members of this Parliament don’t seem to understand that they should represent the people who elected them,” said Mbui.

He further noted that members of parliament seem to think that the parliamentary system is still on despite the transition to a presidential system.
“Some of our members seem to think that we are still at a time when we had a parliamentary system however now we are in a Presidential system,” said Mbui.
Parliament Compromised by Executive
Similarly, the Minority leader while describing the current house as the worst of his time also raised an alarm on the executive interfering with National Assembly by raiding the members.
“Unfortunately, the executive has raided Parliament, and muttered the parliament completely and parliament cannot function,” said Mbui.
“I have served in three parliaments; I think this has been the worst parliament I have served,” he added.
Raila Odinga Slams Government
On the other hand, Mbui’s remarks comes in a weeks after the opposition leader Raila Odinga also called out the 13th Parliament over what he termed as a failure to execute its constitutional mandate.
Raila criticized national assembly for not coming out strong on issues of importance affecting the public like the high cost of living.

He said legislators had been both incapacitated and compromised by President William Ruto’s administration.
The ODM chief cited the recent concluded bipartisan talks alongside Ruto’s intention to privatize some of the government’s property and parastatals.
He warned that the public will have to take responsibility and stop such ‘irregularities’ by the Kenya Kwanza regime.
“Before trying to sell these state agencies, they incapacitated parliament. Nothing is happening in parliament. It has been compromised,” Raila said.
