The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has appointed Engineer Rashid Salim as the new Managing Director.
Rashid Salim will be replacing Ambassador John Mwangemi who has been serving as the MD since 2016.
Eng. Salim was the head of Marine Engineering at KPA before he was appointed to the MD position.
KPA in December 2022, said in a notice that it was seeking to recruit an individual with impeccable administrative capabilities, high degree of integrity, among others.
Salim first joined the authority on September 1, 1982, as a Marine Engineer Trainee before rising through the ranks to Marine Engineer, Senior Marine Engineer, and Principal Marine Engineer (Dockyard).
He also served as Principal Marine Engineer (Afloat), Head of Marine Engineering up to the position of General Manager Engineering Services.

Salim holds several degrees and certifications in the Marine field.
HND in Marine Engineering (UK), Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency (COC) from South Shields Marine College (presently South Tyneside College in UK), Certificate of Competency Maritime Engineering Class, Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats, Certificate of Competency Marine Engineering Class II, Higher National Diploma in Marine Engineering and Ordinary National Diploma in Marine Engineering.
