Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki speaking on Tuesday during the mass grave exhumations in Shakahola termed the cult as a highly organized crime.
“I am afraid we have many graves,” Prof Kindiki said adding that digging out of the graves may take longer than initially expected.
“The damage is quite significant, 20 mass graves are currently being opened. The process is far from over,” the CS said.
Earlier chief Inspector Martin Munene said some victims were found with missing body organs, as court documents indicate that the organs were harvested before they were buried.
“Post-mortem reports have established missing organs in some of the bodies of the victims so far exhumed,” Chief Inspector Martin Munene said.

During the press briefing, Prof Kindiki also revealed that detectives are zeroing in on conspirators of the Kilifi-based cult leader Paul Mackenzie to try and investigate whether he is linked to organ harvesting and trafficking.
The investigator also said that the process of identifying the victims through DNA profiling is still being done since the post-mortem process has not been completed.
“It is believed that trade on human body organs has been a well-coordinated network involving several players. It is suspected that more bodies may be still buried in the expansive land covering more than 1,000 acres,” Munene added.
