The Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) has revoked the list of pre-qualified suppliers.
According to a statement by KEMSA Board Chair Irungu Nyakera, the authority wants to ensure they get their value for money.
“Any contract found not to be providing value for money is to be investigated,” Nyakera said.
“The board will also review all framework contracts immediately with the aim of eradicating single sourcing, cartelization and monopoly action and ensure that items procured under framework contracting are henceforth procured under standard, transparent procurement practices,” he added.

As they move to strengthen KEMSA’s procurement processes, the authority also said it will audit staff within two weeks, placing employees on performance contracts.
“The Board will do this through a staff needs assessment and document validation with a view to retaining qualified staff and redeploying them in line with departmental needs,” Nyakera said.
The board further instructed the management to prioritize Kemsa’s role in Universal Health Care, by scaling down on staff recruitment and travel.
