Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has encouraged Members of Parliament (MPs) to play their oversight role fearlessly.
The deputy president said the government is not averse to constructive criticism.
While addressing the law makers on Thursday, February 2 at Pride Inn Paradise Hotel in Mombasa as he closed the Post-Election Seminar, DP Gachagua said the administration will not interfere with their work.
Moreover, the second in command stated that they were keen to have Cabinet Secretaries respond to members’ queries on the floor of the House with an aim of enhancing accountability and improving service delivery.
“The Kenya Kwanza Administration is ready and eager to be oversighted by Parliament. We want to be held accountable. That is why we are proposing an amendment to the Standing Orders to allow for Cabinet Secretaries to appear before Parliament.” Gachagua stated.
DP Gachagua further noted that elected leaders would not be harassed for differing with the administration.

According to the deputy president, a good working relationship between the Executive and Legislature would be beneficial to the country.
“It is important to note that working together, while respecting our various mandates as the three arms of government, will not only make our work easier, but also facilitate smooth service delivery to the people of Kenya,” the DP added.
Likewise, DP Gachagua affirmed that the government will not stand in the way of the National Government Constituencies Development Fund and National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF).
“Members have vast experience and knowledge of the invaluable contribution of these two Funds in the elevation of communities through sustainable initiatives in Health, Education, Roads Infrastructure and other sectors,” he said.
DP Gachagua further urged the MPs to support government’s quest to get rid of cartels in the agricultural sector.
