Two Kenyan athletes have been banned from athletics by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for violating the anti-doping rule.
Felix Kipchumba Korir and Emmanuel Saina have been handed a three year-ban each.
According to a statement by the AIU, Kipchumba and Saina tested positive for Norandrosterone.
Norandrosterone is a prohibited steroid that contains testosterone used among athletes as a doping agent to accelerate muscle growth, strength, and aggressiveness.
The results for the two athletes were from samples that were obtained earlier in the year.
The statement further noted that Kipchumba Korir’s sample was analyzed at the WADA accredited lab in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Mr. Korir submitted his sample for testing on August 17 in Kapsabet.
Korir is the 2018 Nanjing Marathon winner.
He admitted to the AIU, thus his punishment was reduced by a year.
“On 22 September 2022, the Athlete returned a signed Admission of Anti-Doping Rule Violations and Acceptance of Consequences Form confirming that he admitted the Anti-Doping Rule Violations and accepted the asserted period of Ineligibility.
“The Athlete shall therefore receive a one (1) year reduction in the asserted period of ineligibility pursuant to Rule 10.8.1 based on an early admission and acceptance of sanction.
Saina, the Buenos Aires Marathon in 2018, also admitted to the offence which got his ban reduced to three years.
