Former Lugari Member of Parliament (MP) Dr. Enoch Kibunguchy has passed away.
Several politicians and people close to his family broke the news on Tuesday, December 23, morning, with notable figures sending their condolences to his family.
“Another tree has fallen. The larger Lugari has lost. We have been plunged into mourning again,” ODM Communications Director Philip Etale said.
The ODM Communications Director said the news came even before the burial of former Lugari MP and Cabinet Minister Cyrus Jirongo, whom Dr. Enoch Wamalwa Kibunguchy succeeded in the 2002 General Election. He noted that the region had once again been plunged into mourning.
Dr. Kibunguchy died at an Eldoret hospital on Monday night after a period of illness.
Enoch Kibunguchy is Dead
His death comes just days after the passing of Cyrus Jirongo, who also served as a Cabinet minister and Member of Parliament for Lugari, marking a painful moment for the region.
Following the news, Kenyans and political leaders sent messages of condolence to the family of the former legislator.
Former Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa said:
“It is with a heavy heart that I mourn the passing of Hon. Dr. Enock Kibunguchy, a humble, knowledgeable, and approachable former Likuyani MP with whom we served in the 12th Parliament. May God grant his family the strength to bear this loss. We pray for the repose of his soul.”

Former Tongaren MP Eseli Simiyu said “R.i.p Mheshimiwa Enock Kibunguchy, former m.p Lugari Constituency.”
Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa eulogized the former legislator as a visionary leader.
“I extend my condolences following the passing of Dr. Enock Kibunguchy, former Likuyani MP. He was a visionary leader who laid a strong foundation for the growth of Likuyani. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and this people of Likuyani a during this period of mourning,” said the Kakamega Governor.
Profile of the former Lugari MP
Dr. Enoch Wamalwa Kibunguchy was a politician and medical doctor who served as a long-standing Member of Parliament.
Before entering elective politics, Kibunguchy was a medical doctor and held roles such as Assistant Director of Medical Services at Eldoret District Hospital, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, and the Ministry of Health.

Dr. Enoch Wamalwa Kibunguchy succeeded Cyrus Jirongo as the Member of Parliament for Lugari Constituency following the 2002 General Election, serving one term from 2003 to 2007. After the 2007 elections, Jirongo reclaimed the Lugari seat.
Following the creation of new constituencies ahead of the 2013 elections, Kibunguchy returned to Parliament as the Member of Parliament for Likuyani Constituency, where he served two consecutive terms from 2013 to 2017 and from 2017 to 2022.
