A team of law enforcement officers engaged in a fierce gun battle with a notorious gang in Nakuru North Sub-County, ultimately resulting in the neutralization of two gang members and the recovery of a lethal LIAI rifle.
The confrontation unfolded following a series of violent robberies plaguing the county, all of which were reportedly perpetrated by the same armed group.
The operation was orchestrated by a joint task force comprising officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters, DCI Nakuru North, and the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Lanet.
However, the action was launched in response to intelligence report pinpointing the presence of the armed gang in Nakuru’s Umoja Estate.
Upon arrival at the scene, the officers swiftly moved to apprehend the perpetrators, issuing demands for surrender.
“Acting on intelligence that an armed gang was sighted at Nakuru’s Umoja Estate, the team conducted a sting operation in the area where the four-man gang was ambushed and ordered to surrender,” read part of the DCI statement.

DCI Shoot, Kills Two Criminal Gangs
However, the gang members unleashed a hail of gunfire in the direction of law enforcement, prompting a swift and decisive retaliation from the officers in self-defense.
Amidst the chaos of the exchange, two members of the criminal outfit sustained fatal injuries, while the remaining two managed to evade capture, fleeing the scene with suspected gunshot wounds.
Authorities have since launched an intensive manhunt to track down the fugitives and bring them to justice.
Following the neutralization of the assailants, law enforcement officers meticulously combing the area recovered a cache of incriminating evidence from the scene.

Seized Items Used by the Gang
Among the items seized were the aforementioned LIAI rifle, equipped with four rounds of live ammunition, alongside a menacing array of weapons including a panga, dagger, hammer, and a pair of pliers.
Additionally, investigators recovered balaclavas presumably used to conceal the identities of the perpetrators during their criminal activities, as well as spent cartridges.
In the aftermath of the operation, Crime Scene Investigators diligently processed the scene for evidence, ensuring a thorough examination of the area.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased assailants have been transferred to the Nakuru Annex Morgue, pending formal identification procedures.
