The Ministry of Education moved to rescue Gloria Adhiambo Owino, a 14-year-old girl from Siaya county after she received an admission to join a Lenana school.
Gloria scored impressive 389 marks in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam at Nyalgunga Primary school.

Why She Received Admission to Boys’ School
Siaya’s Sub- County Director of Education, Maurice Saka, shed light on the origin of Gloria’s tribulation, attributing it to a simple error during registration where she had been enrolled as a male instead of female.
“We have learned from this case and are now correcting it. The girl was captured as a male because necessary corrections had not been done early during registration,” Saka clarified.

Apart from the erroneous placement, Gloria Adhiambo is also facing financial challenges.
Friedrich Owino, Gloria’s father, expressed gratitude for the commitment of Saka, Ng’etich, and Juma in securing his daughter a Form One slot but acknowledged the looming financial burden.
Gloria’s mother, Margret Awuor, made a heartfelt plea to well-wishers.
“As her parents, we will appreciate whatever little someone can donate. We cannot fund her education,” she said.
