Bujwang’a Secondary School in Busia County is on the spotlight after the administration failed to register some of their form four students for the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams over demonstration fines.
Speaking to the media, a section of the parents said the school administration refused to register the students since they could not afford to pay the fine levied on all students for destruction caused during a previous demonstration.
The students together with their parents camped outside the education offices in Samia sub-county seeking to find a way of registering the students to sit for the KCSE exams with their colleagues.
“We arrived here at the education offices, but we have not been served. We are asking the government to help us register these students so that they can sit for their exams,” said one of the parents.
Principal’s Advice After KCSE Registration Deadline
Another parent narrated how the principal and the teachers took her in circles after she gathered the money and visited the school to pay.
She further revealed that the principal advised her to take her child back to form three since the registration already passed.
“When I took the money, they apologized and informed me that the deadline for registration has elapsed, and they cannot register the student,” she said.
“The principal informed me that they cannot help and advised me to take the student back to form three so that he/she can be registered next year.”

The Girlchild Dilemma
The parents explained that the students had struggled to get to form four and it will be unfair to force them to repeat.
They maintained that girls are delicate and difficult to educate noting that problems can arise if they spend an extra year in high school.
“We have visited these offices three times and we have never been assisted. Anytime we come they say their bosses are not in,” said another parent.
“We are asking the government to intervene; the education ministry should visit these offices because our students are suffering. They have paid remedial fee, but they are not studying.”
