Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has announced plans by a German human resource consultancy company to recruit Kenyans with Technical and vocation skills.
According to a statement seen by The Kenya Times, the Education Cabinet Secretary held discussions with Volker Falchi, the Managing Director of a Vocational training company named BBW Group on the plan at Jogoo House.
In the meeting, Falchi said that his company would recruit Kenyan workers to be part of the 250,000 people targeted to be recruited from across the world.
The workers, he added, would be deployed in various industries back in Germany as part of a labor migration program arranged between the governments of Kenya and the European nation.
Besides, the workers are expected to help Germany meet its human resource needs.
“His company wants to recruit Kenyans to be part of the 250,000 employees to meet the human resource needs of his country,” the statement dated Saturday, October 14 read in part.
Targeted Fields
As per the statement, the program will target among others, Kenyans with skills in electrical and electronics engineering, as well as mechanical engineering.
Further, the recruitment program will include Kenyans with welding, fabrication skills and mechatronics.
However, the Ministry noted that the listed fields were “initial” pointing towards a possibility for the inclusion of more fields in the future.

Requirements
To qualify, one must demonstrate the right work ethic and the ability to learn German language.
Additionally, interested candidates will be required to exhibit the necessary technical competencies and skills industries in German need.
In his remarks, Falchi underscored the importance of skilled human resources in attracting investors.
Further, the MD vouched for an education and training environment that encourages critical thinking and enables students to use competencies acquired in schools in industries.

On his part, Machogu lauded Kenya’s progress in developing a pool of well-trained young people who have the technical competencies and skills to work anywhere in the world.
According to him, the Technical Vocational and Training system established by the government has helped in developing the requisite skills to work in the world.
