Well-wishers have raised over Ksh1.8 million to help a Kenyan lecturer reunite with her six-years old daughter in the UK.
In an appeal made through GoFundMe, a crowdfunding platform that allows users to create fundraising campaigns, the lady named Doseline Kiguru explained that the UK government had denied her daughter a Visa.
The six-years old daughter, she explained, had been left in Kenya when she landed a research associate gig at the University of Bristol in 2021.
At the time, Kiguru left her daughter in Kenya as the assignment was only temporary.
However, Kiguru would later land a deal making her a permanent lecturer in the university in 2022- implying that she would have to spend more time abroad away from her family.
The circumstances at hand prompted her to consider relocating to the UK on a permanent basis and reunite with her daughter for a fresh start.
Consequently, Kiguru enrolled the daughter at a school in Bristol and even purchased uniform and other learning material ahead of the planned move.
Having completed the arrangements, the lecturer had envisaged a smooth relocation- considering her status as an expert.
To her disappointment, however, the UK government denied her a Visa- according to her revelation in the appeal.
“Unfortunately, the Home Office has rejected her 6-year-old daughter’s visa to join her mother in the UK,” the appeal read.
She explained that the Home Department in the UK took her in circles and only informed her of the decision to reject her application after four months.

According to the statement in the fundraiser, the Home Department stated that it had seen no grounds to justify the need for the mother and daughter to reunite in the UK.
All this time, Kiguru explained that she had spent considerable money due to the repeated paid inquiries and flight changes she was forced to make.
Not even a ruling by the Kenyan High Court giving Kiguru the responsibility to take care of the daughter could convince the authorities, as per the appeal note.

According to a report by the Guardian, Kiguru’s daughter had been asking her mother every day about the status of the Visa.
Her appeal reached well-wishers who in turn contributed money to help her raise the fee required in applying for the Visa afresh.
By the time of this publication- the campaign had raised over Ksh1.9 million (10,700 pounds) on the GoFundMe platform- which was in excess of the targeted Ksh1.8 million (10,000 pounds).
