Former Ganze Member of Parliament (MP) Teddy Mwambire has been elected as the Speaker of the Kilifi County Assembly.
In an election on Tuesday September 20, the former MP under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)garnered a total of 37 votes while his competitor James Mlewa with the Pamoja African Alliance Party (PAA) got 13 votes.
Mwambire had lost his parliamentary seat during the August general elections to Kenneth Kazungu of the PAA party.
ODM having the majority seats in the county assembly, Mwambire’s win was a slide.
The Orange Democratic Movement has 18 out of the 35 elected MCAs, Pamoja Africa Alliance and United Democratic Alliance have 6 each, Jubilee Party 1, with the rest being independent.
Complaints of non-transparency during the voting process from a section of the County Assembly however ensued after Mwambire was announced as the winner.
