Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Monday October 16 said he is nowadays short of money.
Taking to his X account, Sonko posted pictures of him and the Rising Starlets at JKIA welcoming them back from Angola.
In his statement, the former governor said that he was giving them two hundred thousand shillings as a token for winning the match against Angola and making Kenya proud.
“Even though siku hizi nimesota sana, I have chotead our girls, a token of Kshs 200k for making us proud,” he wrote.
This can be loosely translated to ‘Even though nowadays I don’t have much money, I have awarded our girls, a token of Ksh. 200k.
While giving the Team captain their token, Sonko expressed confidence in the ladies noting that he hopes they win the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup 2024 Qualifiers.

“This is a very strong team, the nation is very proud and hopefully you will also win the World cup,” Sonko added.

Although there is no Kenyan football team, both men and women, ever to qualify for a FIFA World Cup tournament, the U20 performance is notably good.
The Rising Starlets’ remarkable journey could change that narrative, offering a ray of hope for Kenyan football.
The final round winners are expected to participate in the U20 FIFA Women’s World Cup 2024 Tournament in Colombia from August 31 to September 22.
Notably, there will be 24 teams participating in the tournament, something that indicates the growing popularity in women’s football.
