Members of parliament elected on the Jubilee party ticket have been warned against joining the Kenya Kwanza coalition
Jubilee Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni says any member who will swear allegiance to the Kenya Kwanza coalition risks losing their elected seats.
His warning comes as independent members of parliament and those from fringe parties’ troop to the President-Elect William Ruto led coalition
Kioni says those shifting allegiance barely days after the polls are exhibiting what he called “lack leadership qualities”.
On Thursday, UDM party elected leaders led by party leader outgoing Mandera governor Ali Roba, ditched the Raila Odinga led Azimio la Umoja coalition and joined Kenya Kwanza
On Wednesday, 10 independent members of parliament also joined ranks with Kenya Kwanza
Kioni however said that defections will not affect Azimio’s control of the National Assembly
According to the Azimio coalition agreement, the earliest a member can exit the coalition is December after the lapse of six months.
President-Elect William Ruto is keen to take control of both houses of parliament and is hence wooing more leaders to his side.
Before the defections, Azimio had taken control of the National Assembly with a slim majority over Kenya Kwanza
The Kenya Kwanza is in control of the Senate with 24 against Azimio’s 23
