Murder suspect Kevin Kangethe, a fugitive who has been arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) was sold out to the police by his family.
Kangethe’s cousin Hamza Otieno made the revelations following the operation that led to the apprehension on February 13, night.
Hamza said that his cousin, Kangethe, showed up at his doorstep to seek refuge as he was on the run from the police.
When he saw Kangethe, Hamza immediately reached out to Kangethe’s father and aunt to inform them that the fugitive had shown up at his doorstep.
Ultimately, it is that phone call that led to the arrest of Kangethe.
Kangethe Family Calls the Police
According to Hamza, while he was accommodating his cousin, Kangethe’s father and aunt went to Ngong police station and shared his exact location.
Police officers at the station then began a coordinated operation to arrest Kangethe. On Tuesday, February13, night, they accessed Hamza’s flat and arrested Kangethe.

Further, Hamza revealed that Kangethe, who is four years older than him, had confided in him and told him that his escape from Muthaiga Police station was an inside job.
Kangethe was taken to Nairobi Area Police Station under tight security, awaiting arraignment at the Millimani law courts.
Escape from Police Station and Murder Charge
The suspect escaped from Muthaiga Police station on February 7 while awaiting extradition application by the US government.
According to police report, Kang’ethe left the police station and boarded a matatu to an unknown destination while officers at the station were in a meeting.
Further, the DCI confirmed that the suspect had visited the counties of Machakos, Kiambu and Nairobi since his escape from custody.

Kangethe is a suspect in a first-degree murder in violation of the laws of the United States where he allegedly murdered Margaret Mbitu in Massachusetts on October 31, 2023.
According to the DCI, he inflicted multiple stabs on the victim’s face and neck before leaving her body in a locked automobile in a parking garage at Boston Logan International Airport.
“Kang’ethe and the late Margaret Mbitu, a home healthcare aid in the town of Halifax, Massachusetts are believed to have been in a relationship before the suspect turned against her allegedly while on a trip to Lowel,” noted the statement.
