Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has responded to claims that he borrowed $60,300 (Ksh7,899,300) from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Director of Administration and Finance Josephat Machogu Onyari to fund his campaigns.
Onyari filed a petition in court after Amisi allegedly failed to pay back the loan he borrowed from him in the last election.
However, in a statement on April 3, Amisi dismissed the reports arguing that international bodies like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and IGAD do not use individuals to give people loans.
Amisi clarified that he was in a better position to loan Onyari and not the other way around.
“This is stupidity of the highest order. Between me and this miserable emaciated old man, who looks like can loan the other. Or is IMF using individuals to loan to nations? Very funny,” Amisi said.
Additionally, the MP explained that the claims are meant to distract his ongoing fight for liberation which he says is unstoppable.
“If you think using cartels masquerading as a diplomat can silence my resolve for liberation, you are into a big shock. The revolution has just begun. Absolutely nothing will stop it!” he said.
Machogu’s Petition Against Caleb Amisi
Machogu through his lawyer, Daniel Achach, filed the case on March 28, 2024, seeking to be repaid the loan.
According to the petitioner, the loans were given during and after the campaign periods on different dates between January and September 2022.
Machogu said the money was transferred to Caleb Amisi after he approached him requesting soft loans in different amounts in his efforts to be reelected in 2022.

He claimed that Amisi agreed to refund all the soft loans in one instalment when he wins the elections and gets sworn in to parliament.
“In the alternative, the Defendant expressed to the Plaintiff that should he not win in the elections, he would give the Plaintiff a payment proposal that would be acceptable, but the Defendant was almost very sure of a win with the Plaintiffs soft loan,” reads the court papers.

The petitioner claimed that he sent Ksh500,000 directly to Amisi’s account on January 6, 2022, and another $50,000 (Ksh6.5 million) on or about April 12, 2022.
Machogu further said the MP requested for another $10,300 (Ksh1.34 million) soft loan later in September that year.
The MP has allegedly failed to repay the soft loans advanced to him by the petitioner despite the diplomat meeting his part of the agreement.
