Safaricom PLC announced a temporary network maintenance that will happen on the evening of Sunday 8th October 2023, from 11:00 PM to 4:00 AM Monday 9th October 2023.
In a statement seen by The Kenya Times, the telecommunication provider stated that the temporary closure of the services is to allow for the enhancement of innovations and growth in customer demand.
“To support even more innovations and growth in customer demand for our services, we will be carrying out planned network maintenance on the evening of Sunday 8th October 2023, from 11:00 PM to 4:00 AM Monday 9th October 2023,” part of the statement read.
The 10 Services
The notice listed 10 services that would be affected by the maintenance process with M-PESA services being majorly affected.
- Lipa Na M-PESA PayBill and Buy Goods
- M-PESA Business to Customer-B2C, Business to Business-B2B
- USSD Services including *100# and *200#

However, the company noted that all other services including calls, data, SMS and all other M-PESA services will be available as usual.
Safaricom further apologized to its customers for any disruption caused by the maintenance and thanked them for the continuous support.
“We are sorry for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your support in maintaining our position as the country’s leading provider,” Safaricom apologized.
Recent Developments
On October 6, 2034, the company announced the temporary closure of all its shops in Nairobi for 24 hours.
However, the giant telco stated that their outlets at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) would stay open to service customers.

The telecommunications provider said that the closure was to allow its employees to be present for a company event on the same day.
In June 26, Safaricom unveiled a new payment model that allowed customers to pay for goods and services using 5G bundles.
To access the service, users are directed to dial *544*34# through their Safaricom lines after which they will be prompted to pay the amount keyed in via till numbers or paybill.
