The United States of America (U.S) government has warned its citizens against attending the Nyege Nyege Festival in Uganda.
In a statement on Thursday, October 9, the U.S. Embassy Uganda directed its staff not to attend the Nyege Nyege festival scheduled for November 9 to 12, 2023 in Jinja.
“Due to security concerns, we advise U.S. citizens not attend the festival. U.S. citizens should also read our most recent Security Alert from November 6,” said the Embassy.
Further, the Embassy advised U.S citizens to stay alert while in locations frequented by tourists.
Additionally, the Embassy urged its citizens to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to allow them to receive information and alerts that will make it easier to locate them in case of an emergency overseas.
The citizens were also directed to follow the Department of State on Facebook and Twitter and visit travel.state.gov.
“Due to increased terrorist activity, U.S. Embassy Kampala recommends that individuals exercise an elevated degree of caution and reconsider attendance at upcoming large public gatherings, such as large-scale worship services and music and cultural festivals in Kampala and Jinja,” read part of the U.S Embassy security alert.
Additionally, the citizens were asked to be mindful when visiting locations where people tend to gather such as hotels, malls, and marketplaces.

Nyege Nyege Festival
On August 22, Nyege Nyege Africa essential music and arts festival announced that the eighth edition will take place in November.
“Nyege Nyege Africa essential music and arts festival, returns for its 8th edition in an exciting new location for four days from Thursday 9 November to Sunday 12 November across stages,” said the organizers.
Furthermore, Nyege Nyege festival disclosed that the event will take place in three locations, at the Nile River including the Jinja Golf Course, Source of the Nile and the Jinja Showground,” Nyege Nyege organizers shared.
The tickets for East African fans will be Ksh5.000, while international fans will part with Ksh.14,000.
Regarding accommodation during the festival, the organizers said that the city has over 500 hotels, hence there will be enough accommodation for all budgets and all guests just minutes away from the venue.
