A key witness in the Maina Njenga case collapsed while taking an oath during the trial of the former Mungiki leader just after being called to testify.
The witness fell unconscious at the Nakuru courts a few moments after she was handed the Bible for oath taking, as is tradition in court trials.
Further, photos taken during the trial showed some of the court attendees helping the witness as she lost control and fell.
As a result, the incident led to the court proceedings being promptly halted for the witness to get medical help
It was still unclear as to why the witness lost consciousness during the crucial moment by press time.
Details on Maina’s Case Trial
The witness was about to answer and testify to Maina Njenga’s arrest pertaining his charges alongside other 11 co-accused.
The former Mungiki leader was charged with engaging in organized crimes and planning criminal activities at his house in Wanyororo, Nakuru County, on May 12, 2023.
Further, Njenga and his co-accused are facing seven counts relating to membership to the outlawed criminal group, Mungiki.
Notably, Maina Njenga was put on defense in the case after he lost a bid to stop his criminal trial.
Further, during the trial, Maina Njenga sought to have charges against him dropped, challenging the authenticity of charges about the outlawed Mungiki sect.

This was echoed by his lawyer Ndegwa Njiru who claimed the prosecution’s charges against the twelve accused persons are defective and illegal.
Additionally, Ndegwa said that the prosecution moved to court with unclean hands and therefore, the process of charging them was mischievous.
As such, Nakuru Principal Magistrate Kipkurui Kibellion dismissed the application by a team of lawyers led by Steve Biko, who accused the State of turning some of the accused persons into prosecution witnesses without following due process.
