A police officer was on Friday morning September 30, shot dead and two others injured in a shoot-out in Kisumu County.
A police chief inspector was shot in his left hand while his colleague, a corporal, suffered gunshot injury on the right thigh and chest.
The two were admitted to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching in stable condition.
The body of the dead police was later transferred to Star hospital mortuary.
The shoot-out was with a suspected gangster at Pap Onditi area in Nyakach.
The area police released a statement which indicated that the suspected gangster was armed with an AK47 rifle, which he used to fire at the police officers.
The police officers had ambushed the suspect after a tip-off of his whereabouts. He had for a while terrorized and robbed residents in Kisumu, Homa Bay and Migori Counties.
The police went after the suspect shooting him a few times, though he was able to escape with a motorcycle.
The crime scene was inspected by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, while others were dispersed in search of the suspect.
