The 2026 Grade 10 admission process has been scheduled with clear reporting timelines and documentation requirements for students.
All students placed into Grade 10 under the Competency‑Based Education (CBE) are required to report to their assigned senior secondary schools on January 12, 2026.
Kenya’s Ministry of Education said this date applies to both public and private institutions that are accepting the pioneer CBE cohort.
Placement letters and instructions are accessed online using the learner’s assessment number following the release of the Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA) results in December 2025.
Students and parents are advised to prepare in advance and bring all required documentation on the reporting date to ensure a smooth admission process.
Timely submission of these documents is mandatory, as it ensures that the school can complete enrolment procedures efficiently.
List of Required Students Admission Documents
From downloaded admission letters, students are expected to carry both personal identification items and school-related details.
The school location details includes;
- Clear passport photo of the student
- A photo of the school location
- School map to be inserted into the designated box provided by the school
These materials help the administration identify students and verify that they have reported to the correct institution.
In addition to school location details, students must bring official documents to complete their admission process.
These includes;
- The original admission letter, signed by the school Director, confirms the student’s acceptance into the school.
- A copy of the student’s birth certificate is also required to verify age and identity.
Furthermore, students need to bring two copies of their passport photos to facilitate record-keeping and issuance of school identification cards.

Parents or guardians are also required to provide one clear passport photo to complete the verification process and serve as an emergency contact reference.
Final Placement Criteria to Senior Secondary Schools
Placement into senior secondary schools (Grade 10) was based on a combined score from three components:
- KJSEA (Grade 9 Assessment): 60% of the final placement score
- School-Based Assessments (Grades 7 and 8): 20%
- KPSEA (Primary Assessment, Grade 6): 20%
This means that a student scoring 40 in mathematics in KJSEA, 15 in SBA, and 10 in KPSEA would achieve a final score of 65%, corresponding to ME1 (Meeting Expectation 1).

Placement into different categories of schools, C1 (National), C2 (Extra County), C3 (County), and C4 (Sub-County), was based on merit.
Higher scores increase a student’s chances of placement in higher-tier schools, such as national schools.
Senior schools selected will be either triple pathway institutions, offering all three routes, or double pathway schools, offering two combinations, such as STEM with Arts and Sports (STEAMS) or STEM with Social Sciences (STEMS).
Education CS stated that learners will not be issued certificates, as was the case with the now phased-out Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
Instead, they will receive result slips indicating their performance in each subject.
