Nyambaria High School was yet again thrust into the spotlight after the release of the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results.
Moments after Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu released the results, the school’s name surfaced on social media platforms with reports indicating that 2023 candidates had yet again registered impressive results.
In a post on its official X account, the Kenya National Examination Council flagged a post showing that a candidate in the school scored straight A’s as fake.
However, a search by The Kenya Times on the KNEC portal used to check KCSE results confirmed that a candidate named John Mark Olum scored straight A’s similar to the one flagged by the examination body.
The provisional results posted on the KNEC platform showed that Olum had registered for eight subjects namely English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Geography, and Business Studies in the 2023 exam in which he scored straight A’s.
Minutes after the exam was released, the results went viral on social media with Kenyans marveling at the stellar performance as shown in the slip.
The school’s official performance in the 2023 exam was yet to be communicated by the time of this publication.
According to a source, the school’s management was in the process of computing the overall performance with the results from KNEC.
However, the school’s community broke into early dance and celebrations as seen in videos shared from the school.
How Nyambaria High School Surprised Kenyans in 2022

However, the 2022 results were marred by complaints and concerns about possible cheating.
Later in 2023 during the administration of the KCSE exams, Nyambaria found itself in national news this time after students in the school reportedly chased away exam officers.
The students were protesting the suspension of the school’s former principal over allegations of exam malpractices.

Machogu’s Ministry had vowed to curb cases of exam cheating in the country and even went to the extent of suspending school principals over cases of malpractices.
In addition, KNEC introduced a new system of distributing exam papers which required exam center managers to collect papers separately as opposed to the earlier system where second session papers were stored in the centers.
This, according to KNEC, had created room for preexposure of examination papers.
