The Ministry of Interior and Internal Administration has confirmed the death of two Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) official swept by floods in Kwale County.
In a statement on Sunday, November 19, Interior Principal Secretary (PS) Raymond Omollo said the accident occurred on Friday morning at around 7:30 a.m.
“On Friday morning at around 0730hrs, a vehicle belonging to Kenya Revenue Authority ferrying two passengers was swept away by floods at Ramisi Bridge in Lungalunga, Kwale County on its way to Mombasa County,” said Omollo.
Further, the PS said the ministry established from Lungalunga One Stop Border Post that the occupants in the Land Cruiser vehicle were Joram Maina, Lungalunga Border Management Committee Chairperson and David Ng’ang’a.
“The vehicle has been pulled out from the raging waters and towed to Msambweni Police station without the bodies of the two officers,” he said.
However, he affirmed that a multi-agency team led by the Kenya Coast Guard Service is on scene trying retrieve the bodies.
“On behalf of the Border Control and Coordination Committee and as its chairperson, our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends at this difficult time,” said Omollo.

KRA Statement
On Saturday, November 18, KRA reported that the two officials were missing after the vehicle they were travelling in was swept away by floods at Ramisi river in Kwale.
Additionally, KRA Acting Southern Region Coordinator Lawrence Siele explained that the river Ramisi over flooded the bridge and swept away the vehicle which was carrying the two officers.
“Two KRA officers have since been reported missing after the vehicle they were travelling in was swept away by ranging floods,” said Siele.

Also, Siele stated that the government already launched an intensive search and rescue operation.
Furthermore, Siele stated that the safety and well-being of KRA employees remains their first priority and a multi-agency has already been deployed with all the needed machinery.
“KRA will continuously update the family members, its staff and the public on the progress and outcome of the rescue mission,” he said.
Besides, he confirmed that KRA has already informed the family members of the two officers.
