The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) has directed that police Constable, Nicholas Musyoka who shot dead a PhD student in a Nakuru club be charged with murder.
In a statement on Wednesday, January 10, the ODPP detailed that the constable shot four people at Loritas Liquor Club popularly known as Vegas Club in Nakuru County.
Two of the wounded, Ann Maina and Laura Kwasira succumbed to bullet injuries while the other two, Benjamin Kote and Edwin Apungana survived with serious wounds.
“Having reviewed the inquiry file, the DPP is satisfied that there is sufficient evidence to sustain a charge of murder.
“The DPP has therefore directed that the suspect be charged with two counts of murder contrary to Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code today, 10th January 2024 at Nakuru High Court, Nakuru County,” the statement read in part.
The PhD student, Laura Kwasira was buried on December 23, 2023.

ODPP Details the Shooting at Vegas Bar
Afte the December 12 incident, the DPP directed the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to conduct an independent and comprehensive investigation.
Subsequently, after 14 days, IPOA submitted its report to the DPP for perusal and directions.
“The DPP reiterates his endeavor to continue the coordination, cooperation and collaboration with Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) into the foreseeable future,
“In order to enhance accountability, efficiency and expeditiousness in the prosecution of similar cases within the criminal justice system,” added the statement.

Reportedly, at around 2:00 AM Further, the police officer engaged in an altercation with the barmaids at the Vegas Club before opening fire.
KDF Officer Detonates Grenade in Local Bar
During the search, a black bag belonging to one of the soldiers was discovered behind the counter of the bar cum restaurant containing 4 grenades, along with other personal items.
“Today at around 0600 hours the chairman of Chebole Trading Center notified the police that there were 2 loud sounds suspected to be gunshots within the trading center.
“A search was conducted in the bar and two grenade pins were recovered suspected to be from grenades that caused the explosion sounds, “read the police report in part.
